Kulia has pretty much turned the corner and is a full time walker now. Except, of course, if she sees something really interesting. Then she drops to all fours and goes into four wheel drive crawl/sprint mode. And let me tell you, this kid hauls diaper.
Of course, the most interesting thing in the world for her right now is the video camera. Although she has been walking for the last week, I have yet to catch any footage of this event. Instead, I have about 45 minutes of her spying the camera, dropping to crawl mode, and then gumming the lens with her super saliva. No matter what I try, I can’t catch her walking. I have, however, gone through a large amount of lens cleaner. That baby spit is something else.
Kevin was attempting to hold Kulia down to change her diaper this afternoon when he gave up the battle and let her crawl away with a naked bottom. He turned to me, exasperated, and said, “I have a feeling you were just like this as a child. Easy going unless crossed and then pure trouble.” At first I was offended. However, truth is an absolute defense so I couldn’t really retaliate. Secretly, I have to agree with Kevin. I think Kulia may look like Kev but she’s a little spit fire like her mom.
Thankfully, Kulia continues to be a sleeping champ. We have a new ritual in our house. At 2pm, we put Leina down for nap and then Kulia and I head to my bedroom. We turn on FoodNetwork and Kulia plays on the bed with various non-toys (Kevin’s glasses, a bottle of aspirin, nail clipper, but no earplugs thankyouverrynuch!). At 2:30, Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals comes on. I am not kidding when I say that when Kulia hears the intro music for this show, she grabs Patches (her blankie), finds her thumb and snuggles in next to me. We lie together on the bed and watch Rachael dice, slice and cook and by the first commerial break, Kulia is out cold. I snuggle her, kiss her soft head, smell her baby neck, and stroke her little fingers that are entwined with her blanket. On the second commercial break, I gently pick her up and carry her to her crib and am back in time to catch the end of the show. It’s wonderful.
I snapped a picture of her zonked out on the bed and will try and cajole Kevin into putting it on this entry. This child is too cute for words. You must see the photo for yourself.
