The Pooka Life

I’m going to testify today. It’s really rather odd because I have never had to take the witness stand before. Guess I’m going to see what it’s like to be on the other side of the coin for once.

Last year, there was an attorney who worked on my floor. Rumors swirled about his behavior towards his secretaries and now it appears that his secretaries have taken action against him and I am to be a witness in their sexual harassment suit. Of course, everything I know is merely office gossip and he said she said testimony. But I must say, my heart skipped a beat when I was told there was a process server here for me. My first thought was, “I’ve been caught.” I know understand why, in some cases, we call opposing counsel and inform them of impending process service so they can give their clients a heads-up. I mean, come on, all of us has *something* we feel we’ve gotten away with. And that moment when you are handed papers and flip through them trying to determine why the summons, well, it’s a little like opening a present from someone who’s a notorious joker. You’re curious and a bit apprehensive all rolled into one.

The good news is, I wasn’t caught. I’m merely a bystander in this particular drama. I can’t wait to hear all the juicy details. It’s like a real life soap opera. That and the fact that I get to leave work early today to attend the trial. This ought to be interesting….
