Shave Ice

And after a hard day of playing at the beach, you must brave the heat to walk down the road for a giant cup of Keneke’s Shave Ice.

Shave Ice...Yum!

Don’t be shy, dig right in!  It melts fast!

Dig In!

Get It Off!

Kulia At the Beach

This is one of the only pictures I managed to snap of Kulia at the beach.  Turns out, she hates sand.  Can’t stand it in fact.  As soon as her delicate little tooties hit the beach, she threw a fit.  She wanted that sand OFF.  NOW.  This made for some difficulties during out trip.  Kulia was the first out of the water and the first headed back to the house every single time.  Just the idea of having to go down on the sand would cause her eyes to well up with tears.  Poor girl.  Hopefully next year she can get over her sand aversion….

Hawaii

Last night in my dream,

we were walking hand in hand,

on the white, sandy beach of Hawaii……

Latest Happenings

We’ve been living large here.  Missing Kevin but having fun all the same.  The big news, of course, was the loss of another tooth for Leina.  She now sports an adorable gapped grin that makes my heart ache every time I see it.  She, however, is very proud of her new smile.

Gone Baby Gone

To celebrate, we broke out the Oreos.  And no one, I mean no one, can eat an Oreo like my girl Kulia.  She can work it!

And, of course, we are still loving our crazy dog.  She is doing ok on her new walk schedule.  I know she misses her long outings with Kevin but hey, we’ve all got to suffer here!  I know, it doesn’t look like suffering but trust me.  It is.

Doggie Lovin'

And finally, there is a lot of Pokemon happening in our house.  Pokemon.  Pokemon.   Pokemon.  Not the card game but the TV show.  Something about it has captured the girls’ imagination and they are on fire.  My favorite so far has been the Pikachu outfit Leina created for herself during quiet time.  Jada about lost her mind when Leina started crawling around the room in this get up.  For some reason, the headband/ears bothered her to no end.  I found it hilarious.  Gotta love a kid’s imagination power.

Pika-Pika?

Tonight we are having a sleepover.  The girls set up the futon in Leina’s room and Kulia has hauled all her stuffed animals and blankets in there to make herself a little nest on the floor.  I have tucked them in but I don’t know if they will get any sleep or not.  I figure tomorrow is Sat so why not let them have some fun?  I have left a plate of donuts on the table downstairs in the hopes that they will help themselves tomorrow morning and let me get a little extra sleep.  This solo parent thing is exhausting!  But I gotta say, it sure is fun!

Our Newest Find

On a whim, I stopped at the antique store next to Kulia’s preschool.

I had Leina with me and we had some time to kill before pick up so I wandered in.  Leina is finally trust-worthy surrounded by knick knacks and breakable objects d’art.  Kulia…..not so much.  So the fact that it was just the two of us tipped my hand and convinced me to peek in.  As we wandered around looking at all the stuff, we stumbled upon a child-sized roll top desk.  Leina was in heaven!  Not only did it fit her to a T, but it boasted a whole row of little nooks and crannies just waiting to be filled.  She sat herself down, declared herself in love, and refused to budge.  Unbeknownst to Leina, my mom had an adult sized roll top desk that I loved as a kid.  Just like my daughter, I loved poking through all those little drawers and shelves.  I adored being able to roll down the top and hide everything away from prying eyes.  So when Leina found this little desk, I just could not say no.  It even came with a little wooden swivel chair.

Perfect!

We somehow managed to wedge it into the trunk of the car and Leina has spend a very happy afternoon setting it up just right.  I think it’s a very good find myself!
