As “The Mom”, I am expected to know where everything thing is in this household from Patches to pagers. \u00a0One question I’m constantly hearing is “Mom! \u00a0 Do you know where *insert item here* is?” \u00a0Usually, I do. \u00a0Not because I have some sort of super mommy power. \u00a0No, the reason I know where everything is? \u00a0That’s because I’m the one who puts everything away. \u00a0I’m constantly following behind my children and putting things back. \u00a0When they were little, I didn’t mind. \u00a0A two year old is a force of nature. \u00a0It’s a fact of life. \u00a0But a 5 year old? \u00a0Well, \u00a0I’m thinking a 5 year old can help with the clean up. \u00a0<\/p>\n

So I started to insist on some help putting away toys. \u00a0Immediately, I began hearing choruses of “but I don’t know where it goes!” \u00a0I had a hard time believing this. \u00a0If you can take it out, you can put it back, right? \u00a0I tried arguing this but my sound logic fell on small deaf ears. \u00a0So I have decided on a different tactic. \u00a0In our new spiffy toy cabinets, I have upped the ante. \u00a0Behold the beauty of my new fool proof toy storage system!<\/p>\n

Labels + pictures = \u00a0no excuses.<\/p>\n

Everything has a home. \u00a0What? \u00a0You are only 3 and can’t read? \u00a0Well, how about a nice picture?<\/p>\n

A place fore everything. \u00a0Isn’t it beautiful? \u00a0Brings a tear to a mother’s eye. \u00a0Sniff.<\/p>\n

I’m thinking even a 3 year old can figure this system out. \u00a0That’s the hope anyway.<\/p>\n

My kids are excited by this new idea. \u00a0They love being able to find everything they need at once. \u00a0Clean up is easy as I pass out a bin to each kid and tell them to collect everything that goes in it. \u00a0Then we replace it and pick another. \u00a0I have gone from hourly worker to management and I like it, baby. \u00a0 The only person not so happy? \u00a0That would Kevin. \u00a0Up until now, Kevin has relied heavily \u00a0on the “I don’t know where it goes” excuse. \u00a0His idea of cleaning is to walk around the room kicking toys out of the middle and to the sides. \u00a0When this cleaning technique was criticised, he was quick to whip out the ignorance defense. \u00a0Well, when he came home last night and saw the fruits of my labor, he grew a little quiet and a frown appeared on his face. \u00a0Under questioning, he admitted that he much preferred his kicking method to my organization. \u00a0Sorry hubby. \u00a0You’re going to have to come up with a new excuse to get out of clean up time now!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
