{"id":954,"date":"2008-05-13T17:19:29","date_gmt":"2008-05-14T00:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrissierocks.org\/?p=954"},"modified":"2009-07-14T14:47:57","modified_gmt":"2009-07-14T21:47:57","slug":"lazy-reader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chrissierocks.org\/?p=954","title":{"rendered":"Lazy Reader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ah, I love books.\u00a0 Books, books, wonderful books!\u00a0 You can never run out of them.\u00a0 Every\u00a0person\u00a0has a recommendation for an old classic or a new author.\u00a0 You can read them all at once or bit by bit.\u00a0They can be tucked into a purse or stacked beside your bed.\u00a0 They never spoil or expire.\u00a0 They can be read over and over and over without harm.\u00a0 Can there be anything more wonderful?<\/p>\n<p>(OK, is it totally obvious I&#8217;m a librarian&#8217;s daughter?)<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to reading, I have two very strange traits that coalesce.\u00a0 First, I&#8217;m a fast reader.\u00a0 Second, I&#8217;m extremely lazy.\u00a0 What does this mean?\u00a0 Simple.\u00a0 My house is strewn with half read books.\u00a0 Right now I have, with out any exaggeration, five books I am currently reading.\u00a0 Crazy?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Just lazy.\u00a0 You see, it starts out simple enough.\u00a0\u00a0 I check out a stack of books from the library and bring\u00a0them home.\u00a0 Usually, I take\u00a0one upstairs to read before bedtime.\u00a0 Totally normal, right?\u00a0 But here&#8217;s what happens.\u00a0 The next day, I find myself with some time after breakfast.\u00a0 I&#8217;m downstairs.\u00a0 My book, upstairs.\u00a0 To get it would mean walking all the way up to my room, passing my happily self-entertaining children and reminding them of my existence.\u00a0 I&#8217;m well aware of the fact that when they spied me, they would begin to demand food or snacks or a diaper change.\u00a0 This is unacceptable.\u00a0 The much simpler (and lazier) approach is to pick up another book from my to-be-read shelf and start it downstairs.\u00a0\u00a0 And so book #2 begins.\u00a0 Repeat this in different rooms of the house and before you know it, every room has a started booked tucked away somewhere.\u00a0 Thankfully I&#8217;m a very fast reader\u00a0so even though I may be reading several books at once, I can usually get them done and back to the library without incurring too many late fees.<\/p>\n<p>And while I&#8217;m a very speedy reader, I sometime think I&#8217;m not quite fast enough.\u00a0 I keep discovering new books!\u00a0 Drat this Internet.\u00a0 There are so many great blogs and lists and catalogues a girl can get positively lost.\u00a0 I have anywhere from 10 to 20 books waiting for me each week from the library.\u00a0 20 books!\u00a0 And they are all so good and different and interesting!\u00a0 It&#8217;s really rather decadent.\u00a0 Being smothered in books.\u00a0 I just finished adding another glut of fresh requests to my library list.\u00a0 Ah, I can hear them rustling their pages at me now.\u00a0 Hmmmm, I have another 15 minutes before the kids&#8217;
