Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sound. I actually only fell down two stairs but it was enought to scare the beegeebees out of Kevin and Artie.

The last few weeks, Mini-Me has settled her cubby little butt right on my bladder. This means that about every three hours I have to pee. It gets especially bad at night because I think she likes to practice her kick boxing moves on my bladder while I’m trying sleep. As a result, I’ve been having lots of dreams where I’m looking for a bathroom. I ignore it as long as I can but eventually I have to lug my huge belly out of bed. Since we sleep in a converted attic, the nearest bathroom is down a flight of steps. Normally, I can manuever these no problem. But then, I’m not exactly “normal” right now, eh?

The real problem is that I can’t see my feet anymore when I walk. I feel like one of the Ms. USA contestents who have to walk down the steps to the stage in a long gown and heels without looking at their feet. You can tell they’re really concentrating. Now, this analogy doesn’t quite hold up as I am 1)not in a gown 2) not wearing heels and 3) the farthest thing from beautiful at 3am. So I pretty much stumble out of bed and slowly lumber down the stairs like a blind person. Feel for the stair, plant foot, shift weight, THUNK. Feel for stair, plant foot, shift weight, THUNK. It’s a slow process made even more maddening by the fact that I reeeeeeealy need to pee.

This morning, it was the usual pregnant shuffle but when I got to the end of the stairs, I got lazy. I’m not sure what happened really. I put my foot out and somehow it missed the stair and next thing I knew I was flying forward. Luckily for baby, I landed in my hands and knees with a very loud THUD. Poor Kevin immediately called downstairs, “Chrissie, are you ok?” To which I replied (while lying at the bottom of the stairs), “yeah, I just fell down the stairs.”

“You WHAT?!?!!!!” Kevin yelled as I heard him jump out of bed and run to the stairs. Artie, of course, was also roused by Kevin’s yell and I could hear him pounding across the room as well.

Suddenly I had this mental image of Kevin and Artie running head first down the stairwell only to land on me as I lay on the ground below wondering how I was going to get up. (Another side benefit of being hugely pregnant is that rising from a lying positions takes extreme will power. Sort of like breaking the gravitational pull of the the earth.)

Thankfully, Kevin and Artie both managed to miss be when they reached the bottom of the stairs. Kevin pulled me up and we examed my poor self. The only damage was to my poor bruised knees and stained wrists. Baby was fine and seemed to enjoy the ride because she began kick boxing my bladder with her usual force.

Needless to say, we had a hard time falling back to sleep after that little adventure. Well, Artie didn’t seem to have a problem but I don’t think he really counts. Kevin wants me to sleep downstairs from now on so he won’t have to worry about me making to the bathroom anymore. I think my poor knees join in his request. But hey, I’m a live on the wild side kind of girl, what can I say? Besides, the is bound to pop soon, right? Right?

So this morning, I fell down the stairs. Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sound.
