{"id":1686,"date":"2011-05-09T21:14:41","date_gmt":"2011-05-10T04:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrissierocks.org\/?p=1686"},"modified":"2011-06-18T11:55:02","modified_gmt":"2011-06-18T18:55:02","slug":"new-week-new-book-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chrissierocks.org\/?p=1686","title":{"rendered":"New Week; New Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Picture This\" src=\"\/2011\/picturethis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"466\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>OK, so, this book.<\/p>\n<p>Wow.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s called <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Picture This<\/span> by Lynda Barry and is best described as a graphic memoir\/how to book. \u00a0Confused? \u00a0I know. \u00a0This book stands all on its own. \u00a0It is odd and compelling and dark and deep and delightful. \u00a0I have never read anything like it. \u00a0Ms. Barry asked herself a simple question: what makes us stop drawing. \u00a0She explores the odd notion that so many people have; namely, that they cannot draw. \u00a0 I haveto admit, she is dead on. \u00a0I cannot tell you how many times I hear people tell me they are not &#8220;artistic&#8221; and they can&#8217;t &#8220;do art&#8221;. \u00a0And yet, every child I have ever met is more than capable of picking up a crayon and making something wonderful. \u00a0 So what happens? \u00a0When do we go from happy drawing to this awful self-criticism? \u00a0I know I am just as guilty as the next person of this. \u00a0But after reading this book, I found myself picking up a pencil and just drawing. \u00a0Something silly and simple and childlike and perfect. \u00a0 And you know what? \u00a0I&#8217;m actually proud of what I drew. \u00a0Me! \u00a0The &#8220;un-artistic&#8221; one! \u00a0A great book in a unique form. \u00a0See if you can find a copy for yourself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK, so, this book.
