I never got into the Disc World Series. \u00a0I thought it was ok but it never hooked me the way some series do. \u00a0So imagine my surprise when I picked up The Wee Free Men<\/em> and couldn’t put it down! \u00a0Mr. Pratchett has written a sub-series in his Disc World for young adults, and I adore them. \u00a0Adore! \u00a0This quote is from the second book and it caught my eye because I’m constantly battling the kids over one particular thing. \u00a0Being Responsible. \u00a0You have no idea how hard this is to grind into their stubborn little brains.<\/p>\n

“Leina, you need to clean up the toys over there,” \u00a0I’ll say.<\/p>\n

“But I didn’t play with them. \u00a0That’s not my mess. \u00a0Why do I have to to do it? \u00a0Kulia should do it. \u00a0She was playing with them!” is the reply. \u00a0Said in the most\u00a0whiny, disgusting voice ever.<\/p>\n

Where do my girls get the idea that if they didn’t do it, it isn’t their responsibility??? \u00a0They will spend 20 minutes arguing about who made what mess instead of spending the 2.5 seconds required to just clean it up! \u00a0Why is this? \u00a0Why? \u00a0I know plenty to grown ups with this attitude as well and these are the people I avoid like the plague. \u00a0Not my fault, not my problem. \u00a0It’s a horrible, self-centered, greedy, and egotistical way to live your life. \u00a0(Can you tell this is a major issue for me?) \u00a0 <\/em>I have managed to quash “it’s not fair” from this house. \u00a0Next on my list is “but I didn’t do it, why do I have to fix it?” \u00a0How, you ask? \u00a0I’m not quite sure but don’t worry, I will find a way. \u00a0Oh yes, I will find a way.<\/p>\n
