Today was the annual field trip to the pumpkin patch with Kulia’s preschool. \u00a0This is our third time through but the first time we have gone without Leina. \u00a0On the way over, Kulia and I were talking about meeting up with her little school friends. \u00a0I was very excited to finally meet these kids she talks so much about. \u00a0Kulia, however, was a bit concerned about my behavior.<\/p>\n
“Now mommy,” she began, \u00a0“when we get there, call me by my real name.”<\/p>\n
“What?” I replied. ” Real name? \u00a0What do you mean?”<\/p>\n
“You know! \u00a0My real names. \u00a0Nothing silly.”<\/p>\n
“Oh, ok. \u00a0Can I call you Peanut?”<\/p>\n
“No.”<\/p>\n
“Bitty?”<\/p>\n
“No.”<\/p>\n
“Ku-wee-wee?”<\/p>\n
No.<\/p>\n
“How about Honey?”<\/p>\n
“No, mommy, only my REAL names! \u00a0Only use one of my three real names!”<\/p>\n
“Ok, all right, I won’t call you any silly names. \u00a0Can I call you Kulia?”<\/p>\n
“Yes, you can call me Kulia McLaughlin Baby.”<\/p>\n
“Whaa? Wait, what are your names?”<\/p>\n
“KULIA…MCLAUGHLIN….BABY!”<\/p>\n
“OK, so I can call you Baby? \u00a0That’s ok?”<\/p>\n
“Yes! \u00a0It’s my real name you know!”<\/p>\n
