Hamburger

Many many months ago, I checked out the book Wee Wonderfuls: 24 Dolls to Sew and Love by Hillary Lang from the library.  The dolls are absolutely adorable and there were a few I was itching to try.  While flipping through the pages, Kulia wandered by and peeked over so see what I was oohing and ahhing over.  Now, Kulia loves pigs and elephants.  I mean LOVES.  It is almost a compulsion with her.  So when she say a pattern for a sweet little stuffed elephant with a hidden pocket, her bitty heart just melted.  She wanted that ellie.  She wanted it now.  Unfortunately, I don’t do so great with now.  I’m more of an eventually type of gal but Kulia would not be put off.  Every time she saw me at my craft table, she’d ask if I was working on her ellie.  She just wouldn’t let me forget it.  So during Spring Break, I put the pedal to the metal and “someday” turned into “today”.   This was not an easy stuffed animal to make.  But from the loving it had been getting, it was well worth the effort and the wait!

Another Tooth Lost!

Another Tooth!

Kulia appears to be going for some sort of bizarre tooth world record.  Tonight after dinner she had me pull her second loose tooth out!  Leina had to leave the room because just the thought of losing a tooth gave her the willies.  Kulia, however, is all about the cash.  She wants another pillow pet to add to her collection and tooth money is big bucks for her.  At the rate she is going, she’ll have a new pillow by sometime next week.  I must say, listening to her talk is adorable.  She had a hard time with “th” before her teeth jumped ship.  Now, she wanders about trying to say “th” and giggling over the resulting sound.  Oh so, so cute!

Toothless

Toothless

Look at that grin!  Kulia has lost her very first tooth!

It’s been wiggling for a while and she has been worrying it to no avail.   Tonight, I gave it a wiggle and asked her if she was ready for me to pull it out.  She gave a little shrug and said, “sure” and out it popped.  No drama.  No crying and wailing.  No cajoling or threatening.   Just a brave little girl who held her ground and saw it through.

Oh Kulia, you earned that grin girl!

Get It Off!

Kulia At the Beach

This is one of the only pictures I managed to snap of Kulia at the beach.  Turns out, she hates sand.  Can’t stand it in fact.  As soon as her delicate little tooties hit the beach, she threw a fit.  She wanted that sand OFF.  NOW.  This made for some difficulties during out trip.  Kulia was the first out of the water and the first headed back to the house every single time.  Just the idea of having to go down on the sand would cause her eyes to well up with tears.  Poor girl.  Hopefully next year she can get over her sand aversion….

Call Me By My Real Name

Today was the annual field trip to the pumpkin patch with Kulia’s preschool.  This is our third time through but the first time we have gone without Leina.  On the way over, Kulia and I were talking about meeting up with her little school friends.  I was very excited to finally meet these kids she talks so much about.  Kulia, however, was a bit concerned about my behavior.

“Now mommy,” she began,  “when we get there, call me by my real name.”

“What?” I replied. ” Real name?  What do you mean?”

“You know!  My real names.  Nothing silly.”

“Oh, ok.  Can I call you Peanut?”

“No.”

“Bitty?”

“No.”

“Ku-wee-wee?”

No.

“How about Honey?”

“No, mommy, only my REAL names!  Only use one of my three real names!”

“Ok, all right, I won’t call you any silly names.  Can I call you Kulia?”

“Yes, you can call me Kulia McLaughlin Baby.”

“Whaa? Wait, what are your names?”

“KULIA…MCLAUGHLIN….BABY!”

“OK, so I can call you Baby?  That’s ok?”

“Yes!  It’s my real name you know!”

So there you have it.  Her three real names.  And no silly ones please!
